2013 Hyundai Santa FE 2.0 Turbo Sport HID Upgrade. Not as easy as it looks!

If you're deciding on upgrading your 2013 Hyundai Santa FE 2.0 Turbo Sport to HID you will need to know a few things.

1. Buy only HID kits with ASIC ballasts. Regular canbus pro 35W or 55W, or non-canbus slim ballast will simply not work. How will you know they're not working? When you turn the lights ON, they will flicker and shut off. This will happen on lows, highs, and fogs. You will need H11 ASIC canbus HID kits for low beam and fogs, and H7 ASIC canbus HID kit for high beams. ASIC ballasts are fast start ballast so they can be used in high beams.

2. There is plenty of room for you to work. Low and High beam bulbs are easily accessible from the engine compartment. Bulbs are hidden behind plastic dust caps. You will need to drill 1" holes in them to run wires out to the HID ballasts.

3. Finding a place to mount the ballasts is a bit challenging, but with a little bit of creativity it can be done. We found a place on near the firewall on the passenger side where we used existing holes and attached provided ballast holders with screws. On the driver side we used the self-adhesive 3M stickers which come pre-installed on the ASIC ballast holders and stuck them to the top of the fuse box. If you ever need to access the fuse box, simple remove the ballasts and move them to the side.

4. Installing fog light HIDs was relatively easy too. To get to the bulbs, you must move the wheel well lining to the side. Mounting ballasts required use of 3M tape. Ballasts were attached to the lower back sides of the bumper.

The entire job took about 2hrs. Always test your HID kit components before making the final install. Test the HID lights with engine off and then engine on, to see how they perform.

Happy installing.
